This year’s Craft Cup was the largest and most successful yet with 43 companies representing over 50 brands competing in 18 categories. The event is a fundraiser for the WSCA- the only trade group that strictly represents producers and processors in what has become a very challenging marketplace that is increasingly dominated by just a few large companies. The WSCA works to ensure a fair marketplace for all companies to compete on a level playing field, and support from its members and the Craft Cup allows that work to continue. This event is a chance for the cannabis community to come together to compete for the title “Best of” in the industry. A total of 177 entries were submitted into the competition. Evaluating these entries is a tough job, and the Craft Cup relies on the industry pros that actually sell products to consumers, the budtenders. Sixty-Seven budtenders were selected from the more than 200 applications from across the state. Each category has six Budtender judges. The judges were given 5 weeks to evaluate the products to ensure a fair assessment of each entry. Categories are broken up into blinded categories (flower, CBD and rosin vapes and concentrates) and branded categories (edibles, topicals, THC vapes, and pre-rolls). The blinded categories were evaluated without the judge knowing anything about the product, while the branded categories evaluations include additional judging of the packaging and branding. The judges consider such elements as effect, smoothness, taste, appearance, and aroma. 

The event itself was a VIP event held on Sunday April 21st in Seattle and was a wind down from a busy 420 weekend giving participants a chance to meet their competition and network within the Craft Community. The suspense was high as the winners were announced.
